This exhibition presents a series of black-and-white photographs that serve as quiet witnesses to the Midwest’s architectural, industrial, and natural heritage. Each image documents structures, machinery, and landscapes shaped by time and use—objects and places often overlooked, yet rich with historical and aesthetic significance.
Through a technical and contemplative lens, Rick Decorie preserves the dignity of the region’s built and natural environments, offering viewers a visual record of stories embedded in decay, endurance, and transformation. The collection invites reflection on the value of preservation and the silent testimony of the Midwest’s enduring forms.
Known for his observational documentary style, Decorie focuses on everyday structures and industrial subjects that might otherwise fade into the background. His work emphasizes detail and form, encouraging viewers to pause and reconsider the familiar landscape around them.
Rick Decorie is a photographer whose work explores the presence of the past in the present. Through images of decaying buildings, rusting machines, and abandoned vehicles, Rick captures the beauty found in their deterioration. By focusing on these remnants, they reveal the overlooked details that time and neglect have shaped.
Their photographs may depict entire subjects or isolate small fragments, drawing attention to textures, patterns, and forms that might otherwise go unnoticed. Color plays a crucial role in their process, sometimes enhanced to emphasize intricate details, other times removed entirely to highlight the raw essence of the subject. Each decision is carefully made, ensuring the visual approach aligns with the nature of the piece.
At the heart of Rick’s work is the desire to pull viewers into the scene, evoking a sense of nostalgia, appreciation, and longing. Through their lens, the past is not lost but preserved, inviting contemplation of its quiet persistence in the present.
