About the event
The Gaylord Building Historic Site and Gallery Seven are collaborating on this special exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66. Timed to coincide with the highway’s centennial in November 2026, this exhibition will bring together original artwork and historical interpretation to explore the legacy of Route 66 in Illinois and beyond. The goal is to create a visually engaging, historically grounded exhibition that appeals to Route 66 enthusiasts, history audiences, art lovers, local residents, and visitors passing through Lockport.
The exhibit will combine two complementary elements: a history component developed by the Gaylord Building and an art component curated by Gallery Seven. Together, these elements will tell a broader story about Route 66 as both a real transportation corridor and a powerful symbol of travel, community, roadside culture, and American imagination.
