​The Gaylord Building Historic Site and Gallery Seven are collaborating on this special exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66. Timed to coincide with the highway’s centennial in November 2026, this exhibition will bring together original artwork and historical interpretation to explore the legacy of Route 66 in Illinois and beyond. The goal is to create a visually engaging, historically grounded exhibition that appeals to Route 66 enthusiasts, history audiences, art lovers, local residents, and visitors passing through Lockport.

The exhibit will combine two complementary elements: a history component developed by the Gaylord Building and an art component curated by Gallery Seven. Together, these elements will tell a broader story about Route 66 as both a real transportation corridor and a powerful symbol of travel, community, roadside culture, and American imagination.

Roadside Attractions: Art and History on Route 66 will be juried and judged by the artist partners of Gallery Seven. Guests are invited to come to the Opening Reception and enjoy light refreshments, meet the artists and see all the wonderful submissions and stick around for the "Think and Drink". Toward the end of the exhibition in March, artists and guests will be invited back to the gallery for the Presentation of Awards. Best in Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, three Honorable Mentions and a People’s Choice Award will be awarded cash prizes during the reception. The People's Choice Award will be selected by our visitors who will be invited to vote for the artwork that most resonates with them. The artist receiving the most votes will be named the People’s Choice Award recipient.​​
